Starting June 17, three Delaware River bridges will no longer accept cash for toll payments, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. The bridges affected are the New Hope-Lambertville, Portland-Columbia, and Milford-Montague Toll Bridges. The last day for cash toll payments at these bridges will be June 16, with cash service ending at 11 p.m. that evening.

From June 17, motorists will have only two toll-payment options – E-ZPass and TOLL BY PLATE. The TOLL BY PLATE system, which was introduced in January, involves capturing a vehicle’s license plate information so the registered owner can be mailed a bill for payment. TOLL BY PLATE rates are up to twice as much as E-ZPass due to the inherently higher costs of billing and processing payments. The Commission’s TOLL BY PLATE car toll is $3, while the E-ZPass car toll is $1.50.

The move is part of a phased-in conversion to cashless all-electronic tolling at all toll bridges, which is expected to be completed by January 2025. The Commission advises that prompt payment is crucial to prevent the assessment of additional fees and possible future penalties.
