Severe storms that swept across New Jersey have resulted in power outages for thousands of homes and businesses. The storms also led to the cancellation of numerous Memorial Day activities across the state.
The weather conditions caused significant disruptions at airports in the tri-state area, with Newark's Liberty International Airport reporting over 120 cancellations and 270 delays.
In Sussex County, the Newton Memorial Day Parade scheduled for Monday was cancelled due to the threat of severe weather.
Restoration efforts are ongoing as crews work to restore power to affected areas. These efforts were already underway due to previous storms when the latest system hit the region.
The severe weather has had deadly consequences in other parts of the country, with at least 23 people reported dead in Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, and Oklahoma over the weekend.
Forecasters have also warned that the upcoming 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which begins next month, could be extraordinary.
