The southbound lane of New Jersey State Route 15, just before Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township, will be closed indefinitely due to safety concerns. The bridge in this area, which has been under construction, has been deemed unsafe for travel. A detour will be put in place, and drivers are strongly advised to plan alternate routes. The northbound lane of Route 15 and Berkshire Valley Road will remain open for travel.
The closure happens during an $8 million federally funded project to enhance safety and improve the operation of the signalized intersection of Route 15 and Berkshire Valley Road. The project includes adding a second left turn lane from Berkshire Valley Road southbound to Route 15 southbound, widening and extending the Route 15 northbound through lane, replacing traffic signals, constructing ADA-compliant sidewalks, and making upgrades to drainage and guiderail. The project was expected to be completed in spring 2024, however officials have no timeframe for when the southbound road will reopen.
