My Epic Weekend In Pictures got off to a great start Friday morning. Friday morning, it was the 41st annual Law Enforcement Torch Run For New Jersey Special Olympics. Officer Ray showed up at our radio station and hand delivered t shirts just like he generously does every single year. I knew traffic was likely going to be pretty intense as we've seen increased volume on 23 due to the 15 bridge closure. I left my place for work probably 20 minutes earlier than normal. My timing was terrific. I was able to leave our radio station, go to 23 and cheer on everyone running in the Torch Run. These are two things near and dear to my heart, special olympics and law enforcement. I was definitely guilty of tearing up while watching those folks running for such a great and important cause.
Early Friday afternoon I was able to pick up my Jeep Compass from Franklin Sussex Auto Body. They did a fantastic job fixing my car. My Jeep was hit and run sometime in early March. I went a long time with my driver's side headlight out, fortunately I don't drive at night too much anyway. The Mitsubishi Outlander rental car I've had for the past couple of weeks definitely served its purpose, I was just so happy to have my car back to me.
In early March I noticed my driver side door started making weird noises whenever I opened or shut it. Then, I was following work bestie Shawn on my way to be the celebrity emcee at SCARC's annual dinner, she alerted me my driver side headlight was definitely out. I brought it to Franklin Sussex Auto Mall, where my trusty sales stud Doug noticed damage. He said "Steve you don't need us, you need a body shop. Someone hit you, and they hit you hard!" Upon further inspection you could see black scuff marks both below and above my driver side headlight. I'm very happy to have my Compass back to normal now.
Both weekend nights I was able to take in the gorgeous weather with friends at Minerals Moonshine Tiki Bar. It's so relaxing hearing the sounds of waterfalls, whether it's a pool or not. It was great seeing so many friends all throughout the weekend.
I was also able to enjoy the beautiful weather at my happy place, Crystal Springs Vista 180 Pool. More waterfall sounds enjoying the amazing Wild Turkey golf course views. I ran into friend Gary Larsen who always jokes about seeing me more often than not without a shirt on, because he's a ranger at Wild Turkey right by the pool.
I tried to be rather low key this weekend, because the next few weeks will be action packed and intense. Saturday I'm going to the annual Crystal Springs Food & Beer Festival (they're so brilliant doing the event on Saturday Father's Day Weekend every year.) Sunday I'll be officiating my 2nd ever wedding.
Last Fall in Philadelphia, I didn't have to be ordained. We joked that even my bottle of water can legally marry a couple in Philly! In New Jersey, you do have to be ordained. I went online to Universal Life Church, and was able to get ordained. I'm starting to really work on the script as I learn more about my friends Sarah and Tyler. I'm so honored to be a part of their special day. I met their family 9 years ago at one of my first charity golf outings for K.E.E.P. and we've all been great friends ever since. The girls refer to me as Uncle Steve, and I couldn't be prouder of them. Tough to believe I've been here in Jersey over 10 years, and now I've been here long enough where I'm officiating weddings for folks I knew when they were kids. Oh my how time flies!
It will definitely be surreal signing a marriage license as "Minister Steven Allan." This will definitely be interesting! Normally I would say time for me to start planning next weekend, but in this case, the weekend is already packed!
