The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for northern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and southeast New York, effective from 10:00am Tuesday until 6:00am Wednesday. An Excessive Heat Watch will also be in place from Wednesday morning through Saturday evening.

The advisory warns of heat index values reaching up to 99, with the potential for heat-related illnesses due to extreme heat and high humidity. The public is advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

The heat wave is expected to intensify as the week progresses, with peak temperatures likely on Thursday and Friday. During these days, temperatures could range between 95-100 degrees, potentially setting new daily record highs. Heat indices could reach 100-105 due to elevated humidity levels.

The heat wave is expected to be the region's hottest stretch of weather since July 2022. Minimal chances of rain and high overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s are expected to exacerbate the heat's impact, particularly for those without air conditioning. A break in the heat may arrive by late next weekend.
