A Flood Watch has been issued for several counties in New Jersey, including Sussex, Warren, and Morris, effective from 6 AM EDT today through Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns of heavy rainfall, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour and localized amounts up to 3 to 4 inches. This could potentially cause flooding in rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations." said the National Weather Service. Residents, especially those in flood-prone zones, are advised to monitor weather updates closely and be prepared to take necessary action if flooding occurs.

The weather service also issued safety guidelines for residents in flood-prone regions, including moving to higher ground, following evacuation orders, and disconnecting utilities and appliances. They also advised against walking in floodwaters and recommended seeking high ground if trapped.

The flood watch is not as urgent as a flood warning or a flash flood warning, but it indicates there’s a potential for heavy rain that could quickly cause water to rise high on local streets and highways, especially near swollen streams and rivers.
