New Jersey is preparing for one more day of extreme heat, with an excessive heat warning in effect for most parts of the state. The warning, which remains in place through tonight, comes after nearly two weeks of uncomfortable to extreme heat and humidity. Today's high temperatures are expected to reach between 90 to 95 degrees, with a heat index of around 100 to 104 degrees.

In addition to the heat, the state is also bracing for another round of severe storms expected to sweep across the state from late afternoon through Wednesday evening. These storms could bring damaging winds, heavy rain, and potential flooding. The prime time for thunderstorms is between 4 p.m. and midnight, with most of New Jersey expected to get wet at some point.

Despite the discomfort, relief is in sight. A cold front approaching from the west is set to bring big changes within the next 24 hours. Humidity levels are expected to drop dramatically, setting the stage for a stretch of mainly dry, warm, and more comfortable weather. The forecast from Thursday through Tuesday looks promising, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-80s, right on the long-term average for mid-July.
