A large tree that fell on Mountain Avenue in Matamoras is being blamed for a fire and power outages that affected hundreds of residents on Wednesday (July 17). The tree, which fell on power lines, caught fire but did not spread to nearby areas.

Pike County Light & Power reported the incident and dispatched utility crews to clear the tree. The fallen tree blocked both sides of the road, causing traffic disruptions and requiring significant time to remove.

Despite the fire, no injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread to nearby areas. However, the incident did result in power outages for several hundred Pike County residents.

Pike County Light & Power crews worked throughout the day to restore power to the affected areas and clear the road for traffic. The company has not published an estimate of when all power will be fully restored.
