This weekend was definitely impacted by the frequent thunderstorms, that's for sure! My weekend started with me kicking off the annual New Jersey State Fair Sussex County Farm & Horse Show. I arrived by 4:45pm right before the gates opened at 5:00pm. At 5:05pm the skies opened and became dark very quickly. BOOM. Raining sideways, with wind along thunder and lightning for added style points. My Street Teamer Michael and I for 40 straight minutes were simply just holding down our radio station tent so it wouldn't become a projectile. It was intense. I made a good point to Michael saying "thank goodness we at least had the tent up before 5:05 and all this mess started!" Another year for me at The Fair. I'll be there everyday this week except Thursday. This year I'm taking Thursday off from going so it's easier for me to do Pet Of The Week here at our radio station. The last few years I've been trying too hard stretching myself thin attempting to pull off Pet Of The Week earlier, then going to do my show from The Fair. I'm grateful my friend Borasio from 103.7 NNJ and 106.3 The Bear will be doing his afternoon show from The Fair Thursday from 5-7pm.
I had fun attending our 103.7 WNNJ Battle Of The Bands Friday night after the rain stopped. It's always fun supporting local live music for sure. I left right around 8:15pm. After getting into the office by 7:30am, by 8:15pm I definitely turned into a pumpkin after midnight quick. All good. At least I didn't get drenched at The Fair.
Saturday morning was my fun day off where I was able to take some of my besties golfing at Crystal Springs Ballyowen. It is so absolutely gorgeous there! You feel like you're in Ireland or Scotland, despite being just a ten minute drive away from where I live in Vernon. I highly recommend it and cannot wait to treat myself and go back to Ballyowen. I had such an amazing time with besties Artie, Marky and Buckeye Paul. They are avid golf fans and golfers, I'm grateful they were so patient with this newbie. They even gave me some helpful pointers too! It was hot and humid, we were all drenched in sweat. Right after the 9th hole, we were kicked out due to the impending thunderstorms. Whether or not they kicked us out, we wouldn't have been able to play through that weather anyway. Medal golf clubs with thunder, lightning are probably not the best mix. For me with golfing I'm just happy to be out there having fun with my friends. I'm not good enough to keep score. I'm just happy hitting the ball. That being said, I did have some decent putts that would have been amazing had they gone into the hole. Details, details. LOL.
Sunday I went to my Heaven on Earth happy place, Crystal Springs Vista 180 Pool. For over two hours I was able to enjoy easily the best weather we had all weekend. The sun was even shining on us for a solid 90 minutes! After enjoying fun, relaxation in the pool my friend I joked that we would be leaving the pool before we were kicked out of it due to the impending thunderstorms. Surely enough, we left the pool probably 2 minutes before they had to close it. I was bummed because my besties Margie and Artie had just shown up for a fun, relaxing day at the pool. They probably weren't even there for 10 minutes! I was grateful to get the time in the sun we did get.
Sunday happy hour I wrapped the weekend up meeting Margie and Artie at The Irish Cottage Inn. I joked that the thunderstorms kicked us out of the pool, so we ended up at The Cottage in Franklin.
Overall I had a great weekend when the weather was permitting. Next weekend I'll be visiting my family up in Boston, so my Epic Weekend In Pictures won't be posted up here until Wednesday. You can always see it in real time on my Instagram Story @SteveAllanRadio. Thank you!
