The remnants of Hurricane Debby, now a tropical depression, are set to bring heavy rains and high winds to northeast Pennsylvania today, prompting a Flood Watch for the Poconos. The National Weather Service has also issued a Wind Advisory, effective from later this morning, due to concerns that the high winds could cause trees to fall and power outages.
Debby, which made a second U.S. landfall over South Carolina, is now expected to push through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The storm is drawing more moisture from the Atlantic and is predicted to bring heavy rain, torrential downpours, gusty winds, and severe thunderstorms capable of spawning brief tornadoes near the coast.
"The combination of tropical-storm-force winds will have trees bobbing and tipping in the saturated soil, and a number may topple over that can lead to property damage and power outages," warned AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham to the Pocono Record.
The storm's track is expected to push inland over North Carolina today and then follow a path along the Appalachians through the Northeast from Friday to Saturday. Rainfall is expected to range between 4 and 8 inches across Virginia, eastern West Virginia, western and central Maryland, a large part of Pennsylvania, central and eastern upstate New York, and western New England.
