Newark Liberty International Airport has been ranked as the airport with the most complaints related to the Transportation Security Administration, according to a study by travel company Upgraded Points. The study analyzed TSA complaint data from 2015 to 2023 at 44 large U.S. airports, with complaints normalized by passenger volume for accurate comparisons.
Newark Liberty received complaints at a rate of 6.83 per 100,000 passengers over the course of the period reviewed. In 2023 alone, Newark received 12.84 complaints per 100,000 passengers. The complaints ranged from issues with TSA PreCheck and mishandled property to general customer service and the screening process.
Following Newark, Palm Beach International and Orlando International Airport in Florida, Southwest Florida International Airport, and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport were also high on the list of airports with the most complaints.
On the other end of the spectrum, Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, and Love Field in Texas were among the airports with the fewest complaints.
Time Out reports that the months with the most complaints filed were November and December, which aligns with the peak holiday season.
