As students gear up for their first day back at school in the East Stroudsburg Area School District, school leaders are putting a spotlight on school bus safety. Maryann Rosario, a representative from the district, is stressing the importance of road safety as school buses return to their routes on Monday.
With the start of the new school year, Rosario reminds drivers that they will need to share the road with school buses. This is crucial for the safety of the students. One key point Rosario emphasizes is that drivers should never pass a stopped school bus when its stop-arm is extended. This stop-arm is a safety feature that alerts drivers to stop and allow children to get on and off the bus safely.
This year, the district is introducing a new feature to enhance student safety: a school bus ID scanner. This device will scan students' IDs as they board the bus. The purpose of this system is to keep track of which students are on the bus and who might be missing. This information will be available to both the school and the parents, ensuring that everyone is informed about the whereabouts of the students.
The East Stroudsburg Area School District, located in Monroe and Pike Counties in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania, serves approximately 6,389 students across its 10 schools.
