Record-Breaking Travel Expected for Labor Day Weekend: Port Authority

Newark Airport Plagued By Delays And Cancellations Amid Storm System On East Coast

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is preparing for an influx of travelers this Labor Day weekend, with travel set to commence on Thursday. The agency anticipates a record-breaking number of travelers to mark the end of the summer season.

According to Jim Heitmann, the Chief Operating Officer of the Port Authority, an estimated 2.5 million people will pass through the agency's airports, including Newark Liberty. Additionally, around 4.2 million cars are expected to use the Port Authority's bridges and tunnels during the holiday weekend.

In an effort to facilitate smooth travel, non-emergency construction projects will be suspended from Thursday through Tuesday morning. This measure is intended to keep the roads clear and prevent unnecessary traffic congestion.

The Port Authority predicts that Thursday and Friday will be the busiest days for airports. As such, they are encouraging air travelers to utilize mass transit options where possible.
