Even for me, this was definitely an Epic Weekend In Pictures! This will definitely be heavier on pictures and memories than text. This Epic Weekend included a wedding up in New England on Cape Cod, some fun with family, completely unexpected last minute once in a lifetime Red Sox tickets, and getting to golf at Farmstead in Lafayette with my friends at SCARC.
It's not often we start my Weekend In Pictures with a Wednesday, but here we go! Wednesday I was able to once again golf at SCARC's annual Golf Outing. You may know I take great pride in getting to partner with them whenever possible. With the event being so massive every year spread out across 3 golf courses, we were able to enjoy Farmstead Golf & Country Club. I was with my besties work wife Shawn, Michelle, and Cheryl.
A few weeks ago at Tee It Up For The Troops outing, my drives were awful. Out of 18, I think 2 or 3 were usable. I was painful to watch with drives. That being said, my short game was actually pretty decent at least. During this best ball scramble outing, we often did use my short game shots. At least I had some minor grace after that fun day. Fast forward to our SCARC golf outing, and my drives were much better. My short game was also even better! This led to probably the best round I have ever shot in my life! That being said, Farmstead can be quite a challenging course. There are lot of gorgeous water hazards. To many they're beautiful ponds. While golfing, they're water hazards or as I call them ball stealers. Since we don't want to make things too easy anyway, there are also plenty of steep hills on the course. That means that sometimes you can hit an awesome shot that goes over the hill, then you lose track of where it ends up landing. That also means there were several shots I drilled pretty well, yet we still couldn't find my ball anywhere.
I'm not a good golfer. If I merely make contact with the ball, well that's better than missing it altogether in front of everyone watching. I know me. Therefore, anytime I go out golfing with anyone, the day before I buy a 15 pack of golf balls usually for around $17. As much as I love being out there on the golf course and attempting that wonderfully frustrating spot, there are many balls to be lost. I'm not good enough to warrant spending money on decent, fancy golf balls. Therefore I'll buy a 15 Rack of golf balls, usually Wilson's, and don't care as much if they go missing. At least once when we're out golfing, it's also entertaining for at least one of my friends to randomly yell out "WILSON," while searching for my ball. On Hole 3, I got it on the green in one shot on a 132 yard hole. I had fun showing that picture to family and friends. I was ready to try putting it in when one friend yelled "Steve you're closest to the pin, you need to measure it!" I asked for help, because I have never, ever once had the champagne problem of needing to measure my shot. I was 9 feet 6 inches from the hole! For a few hours I was closest to the pin, but someone ended up beating me. All good!
Friday, time to drive up to Cape Cod for the wedding!
Major shout out to my besties Matt and Tracy. Matt has been one of my very best friends since high school. tough to believe MattE has been with me through thick and thin for over 25 years. Yep, we are getting old! Tracy was one of the most unbelievably patient (and stunning,) brides you will ever see. She and Matt had to spend much of the two hours right before their wedding working on changing the venue due to rain. Definitely not the way many would want to spend their wedding week. You would never even know it when spending time with them during the weekend. To say they handled everything unbelievably well would be an understatement.
I then stayed a couple hours later Saturday with them than I originally planned on doing. We had a great breakfast together at Sailing Cow in Dennisport, MA. Then I went back to their house they rented to help rearrange some furniture they moved to make the wedding happen. We had a wonderful Friday night at Swan River Restaurant & Fish Market. The DJ was playing so many of the boy band songs like NSYNC I grew up with. It took much prodding and dragging but even I ended up on the dance floor with my two left Irish feet trying to bust a move. We had such a great time seeing some of our best friends we haven't seen in many years. We then did a beer at Chatham Squire, which is wildly popular and I'm told they even shot the movie Summer Catch there years ago. That was one of my favorite highlights because then all of us could really hang out with each other, talk, laugh and catch up. Yes you have some of that during wedding receptions, but nothing compared to the next day when everyone can relax so much more. I had an amazing time.
By the way, how much rain? The roads were intense with flooding. Turns out, we ended up with 7-9 inches of rain on The Cape!!! Intense!
Matt(E,) thank you for being such an amazing bestie to (and putting up with) me for so many years. Tracy, thank you for being such a great friend to me these past few years, and for making my best friend so happy.
Saturday night I was ready to just stay in and relax with my family. Madre, sister Zannie, Padre, Aunty Sue and Uncle Jeff / JDawg. Padre and JDawg were having fun despite some challenges making homemade pizzas for all of us. It was great to simply just hang out with my family. I planned on having just a nice, chill, relaxing, not needing to worry about going anywhere Football Sunday Funday with my family. Just what the doctor ordered.
I did some Sunday morning errands, was able to see Grammy and my Uncle Buck, and enjoy spending time with them. My Uncle Buck was impressed with my temporary Closest To The Pin shot, I had so much fun showing him that. I then ventured over to Gillette Stadium per usual to see it and take a selfie. Home sweet home!
Ironically, my friends Artie, Buckeye Paul, Markie, and George all went to the Giants game at Cleveland! They started sending us some wonderful, fun, beautiful pictures a to a text thread we have. I then sent them all the selfie of me at Gillette, saying "hey we have both Cleveland and New England's stadiums represented today!"
I get home just in time for the 1:00pm kick off. 1:15pm I was with Padre, getting ready to crack open an ice cold beer. My sister Zannie called me, which was a little worrisome because she was at a church for her friend's daughter baptism. I answered the phone very quickly in case she needed me for anything. She said "Uncle Jeff just texted me, he can get us free Green Monster tickets for the second game of the Sox doubleheader today! Should we do it? What time does the second game start?" I looked it up on my phone, and first pitch was at 5:35pm. We could make it in time! And we did. YES!
You never forget a game you see on The Green Monster, whether you're a Red Sox fan or not. This is my third time ever getting to watch a game up there. We were in second row, meaning we were just north of 37 feet high above the playing field at historic Fenway Park. We definitely took two fun selfies. What a game! Red Sox even won 9-3! Since they won Game 1 of the doubleheader 8-1, we were all expecting them to lose this one. This was the first time they swept a doubleheader since June 2023! In baseball when a team does great in Game 1, they very rarely do well again in Game 2. We were pleasantly surprised!
If you ever go to a game at Fenway Park, always feel free to consult me. As once in a lifetime and amazing the Green Monster seats are that you'll never forget, I don't recommend sitting there your first ever time at Fenway Park. Why? The only negative to The Green Monster seats (aside from if you have fear of heights like I do, but survival was my goal),) is that you cannot see The Monster because you're on top of it! Once you do get to see the Epic Green Monster in person, then by all means, jump right on it! Well, don't jump, just sit, or stand, LOL.
Overall it was an amazing weekend. Time to start planning next weekend!
