Clinton Road, a winding 10-mile stretch in West Milford, has been named the most haunted road in America by car rental company Sixt. The road, known for its tales of paranormal activity, ranked second in the world, behind a major regional route in South Africa.
The road is infamous for its chilling tales, including the ghost of a young boy who is said to haunt a bridge along the route. Legend has it that the boy drowned in the waters beneath the bridge, and drivers who toss a coin into the water may find it mysteriously thrown back by the boy’s spirit before they’re chased by an unseen presence. Visitors have also reported phantom headlights that follow them before vanishing and sightings of scary apparitions.
According to Patch.com, the road's spooky history includes a mix of supernatural occurrences and unsettling urban legends, making it a go-to destination for thrill-seekers and paranormal enthusiasts.
Florida’s Interstate 4 and Wisconsin’s Bray Road ranked second and third respectively in the Sixt report. The former is known for a "dead zone" where cellphone and radio signals vanish and the latter is infamous for its legend of the “Beast of Bray Road,” a werewolf-like creature that allegedly prowls the rural road.
