NJ Travelers Flee Florida as Hurricane Milton Approaches

Delays And Cancellations Continue To Plague Airline Industry Heading Into Holiday Weekend

Thousands of vacationers are returning to New Jersey from Florida as Hurricane Milton is predicted to hit the Sunshine State by tomorrow. The impending Category 3 hurricane has led to a surge in flight prices, with some travelers reporting paying up to six times the average ticket price. Many are on standby, hoping for available seats as they rush to leave Florida.

In response to the approaching storm, Tampa International Airport has announced it will suspend commercial and cargo operations later this morning. Orlando International Airport, while remaining open for emergency aid and relief flights, will cease commercial operations at 8 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, according to a statement by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA). The GOAA has also emphasized that Orlando International Airport is not an authorized shelter and cannot accommodate local residents during severe weather events.

Other airports, including St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, have also announced temporary closures due to the hurricane, as reported by 6abc.com.
