The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved $55 million in funding to begin the planning process for the redevelopment of Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport. The decision, announced on Thursday (October 24), marks the first significant step in executing the newly unveiled EWR Vision Plan, a comprehensive blueprint for the airport's future development.

The funding will be allocated toward preliminary design work, assessing related utility and infrastructure needs, determining feasible financing strategies, and initiating outreach efforts across community and government partners. The planning process is expected to take place over the next couple of years.

The new Terminal B is set to replace the current one, which officials say has struggled to meet evolving passenger and industry needs. The redevelopment is part of a broader effort to transform Newark Liberty International Airport into a modern, world-class international gateway.

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said, “With the EWR Vision Plan in place, we are wasting no time getting the ball rolling on the planning for a new world-class Terminal B.”

The EWR Vision Plan, developed with design firm Arup and architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, outlines a comprehensive reimagining of the airport, including modern terminals and infrastructure, a more intuitive roadway network, and a redesigned taxiway network to accommodate aircraft more efficiently and reduce delays.
