Several communities in Pike County have imposed burn bans due to dry conditions. Shohola, Greene, and Delaware townships have all ordered residents to refrain from burning leaves or yard waste. The bans were issued following a series of brush fires in Hawley, Dingman, and Lackawaxen last week. The burn bans will remain in effect for 30 days, or until local leaders decide to lift them.

The bans come as other areas are also grappling with dry conditions. Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie counties in New York have also declared bans on outdoor burning due to abnormally dry conditions, according to The Daily Star. Similarly, the State of Delaware issued a statewide burn ban effective from Oct. 15 due to a lack of rainfall and extremely dry conditions, as reported by Coastal Point.

Residents are urged to cooperate with these measures to reduce the risk of fires. The bans do not apply to charcoal and gas grills used for cooking, but extreme caution is advised.
