New Jersey is gearing up to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, with Governor Phil Murphy announcing a series of events and projects that will take place from 2026 to 2033. The state is investing tens of millions of dollars into preserving key Revolutionary War sites, including Boxwood Hall in Elizabeth and Monmouth Battlefield State Park, the site of the longest and hottest one-day battle of the American Revolution.

The commemoration, led by RevolutionNJ, New Jersey’s official organization for planning the state’s 250th anniversary, will highlight New Jersey’s critical role in the nation’s history. “New Jersey is not just home to revolutionary history—we are, to this day, the birthplace for revolutionary possibilities,” said Governor Murphy.

The state has already set aside $25 million in federal pandemic relief funding to improve ten Revolutionary War sites. These include Washington Crossing State Park, where a new visitor center with immersive exhibits is being developed, and Monmouth Battlefield State Park, which hosted the launch event for the commemoration.

The state’s tourism office has also put together a series of programming plans, including interactive events, educational programming, art installations, and a race series around key Revolutionary War sites. The programming will culminate in a marquee event to celebrate July 4, 2026, the nation's 250th anniversary, which will feature performances, reenactments, and much more.

The commemoration aims to prove that New Jersey is the essential destination for discovering the spirit of the American Revolution, as a majority of the battles took place in the Garden State.
