Update: The boil water advisory was lifted at 2:56pm on Tuesday, November 12th.

A water main break on Stanaback Road in Franklin has prompted a Boil Water Advisory for all customers in the Franklin Borough Water Department's service area. The advisory was issued as a precautionary measure due to potential contamination risks following the break.

Customers are advised to boil tap water for one minute and let it cool before use. Alternatively, bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking, washing food, making ice, brushing teeth, and washing dishes. Additional precautions include discarding any food or ice made with tap water on the day of the advisory, storing boiled water in the refrigerator, avoiding swallowing water during showers, and using a diluted bleach solution for rinsing dishes. Home water filters are not considered sufficient substitutes for boiling. Pets should also be given boiled water.

The advisory will remain in effect until water quality tests confirm the safety of the water supply. The Franklin Borough Water Department is working diligently to resolve the issue and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Once a boil water advisory has been lifted, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection advises customers to flush household pipes, ice makers, water fountains, and other tap water fixtures.
