Monroe County officials have approved a temporary homeless encampment in a wooded area behind Glen Park in Stroudsburg. The decision was made in an effort to keep the homeless population in one place and provide them with necessary services. The move comes in response to a significant increase in the homeless population in the Stroudsburg area over the past year.
The encampment is being managed in collaboration with Street2Feet, a local organization dedicated to helping the homeless. Stroudsburg Borough Manager Larry Kopp stated to PA Homepage, "The long-term solution obviously is to try to find some kind of housing. I know the county is looking at that problem. From our point of view, what we’re trying to do is, we’re trying to keep all the homeless people in one area and try to get services to them as much as possible."
The only issue with the encampment so far has been garbage accumulation, which is being addressed by daily trash collection by the borough. The encampment is seen as a temporary solution while the county and borough work with Street2Feet to find permanent housing solutions for the homeless.
