Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township has confirmed the closure of several iconic rides, including Kingda Ka, the world's tallest roller coaster. The park announced the closures as part of a multi-year expansion plan aimed at enhancing guest experiences with new thrill rides, improved family attractions, and upgraded amenities.
Kingda Ka, which opened in 2005 and has delivered more than 12 million rides, was once the fastest and tallest coaster globally, reaching speeds of 128 mph. Alongside Kingda Ka, other rides like Green Lantern, The Twister, Parachutes, and the Sky Way will also be demolished to make way for new attractions.
The park plans to introduce two new rides in the coming years. The Flash: Vertical Velocity, described as "North America's first super boomerang coaster," is set to open in 2025. In 2026, the park will unveil a yet-to-be-named "multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster."
According to ABC7NY, Brian Bacica, the park's president, said, "We understand that saying goodbye to beloved rides can be difficult, and we appreciate our guests' passion. These changes are an important part of our growth and dedication to delivering exceptional new experiences. We look forward to sharing more details next summer."
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of prior notice for the closure of Kingda Ka. Despite the emotional impact of these changes, the park remains committed to delivering new and exciting experiences for its guests.
