My Epic Weekend In Pictures Fun With Friends And Delicious Food

This was definitely a fun Fall weekend for me. Last weekend before we are working wall to wall next weekend for our annual Stuff The Bus food drive. I had fun with some friends I haven't seen in quite some time, along with sometimes sticking to my normal comfort zones and foods. Friday night we were able to celebrate bestie Chris's birthday, all while having fun with friends.

Friday night I got hooked. I said the whole week leading up to it that I wasn't going to watch the Mike Tyson Jake Paul fight. I was dead wrong. I ran into some friends at The Irish Cottage Inn for happy hour, which then started spilling into the Netflix special. As they started the event at 8, I started to feel nostalgia. This was probably my first time watching any boxing since the late 1990s. I remember how electrifying those Mike Tyson Pay Per View fights were in the late 1980s to 1990s. I remember the joke that you were paying basically one dollar per minute of a Tyson fight because his fights were usually so quick. I went home and continued watching The Netflix special, they totally hooked me. I still can't believe I stayed up for the whole entire Tyson fight that didn't even start until Midnight! I'm usually preferring to be in bed hours before then. I like watching WWE on occasion but not into UFC MMA fighting fights. To me UFC stuff is a little too brutal. I did enjoy some of the fights. The earlier fights were actually more entertaining and enjoyable than the Tyson fight. I remember watching Mike Tyson in the 90s, it was like they were unleashing a bull in the ring when the opening bell rang. His fights usually weren't that long because he was so powerful and quick. I remember what huge pop culture events these boxing matches were. I remember when during the press conferences leading up to one fight, a challenger announced "I'm Peter McNeely from Medford Mass, this Saturday night watch me kick Tyson's @$$!" It got a laugh out of Tyson saying "Mr. McNeely made a cute statement there." Mike Tyson would go on to later win that fight, in 89 seconds! Even though these fights were often quick and underwhelming, you still found yourself watching among other millions.

I was annoyed during the broadcast before big fights, when they interviewed Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. He talked for probably a minute, to the broadcaster in me felt like an eternity, with a microphone that didn't work and you couldn't hear anything he said. I was yelling at the TV "How can they not be telling someone to hand Jerry Jones one of their microphones that actually is working!" Cowboy great Michael Irvin then handed him his working microphone.

Overall there were some interesting parts of the broadcast. I wish I didn't get roped in watching it all hours of the night, but it was something different for a fun experience. It was tough watching Mike Tyson looking every bit of 58 years old, that's for sure. I'm happy for him he was able to make his comeback from several medical events and jump back in the ring at least. Saturday morning I woke up still early at 6 or 7, had something to eat, then fell asleep on my couch. I must've been asleep for a couple of hours. I was wiped out from my impromptu late night.

Saturday afternoon I was able to join friends at the new Thirsty Farmer in Sussex. The Thirsty Farmer was definitely a fun country vibe sports bar. I was able to hang with besties Christine, Chris, Artie, and George. We had a great time enjoying this new spot. They have a system that I had never seen before with beer. I ordered a draft beer, and they have this system where the beer pours from the bottom into the glass, filling it up to a perfect pour! It was really fun to watch in person. That was definitely a very fun change of pace. I'll be back there again sometime, that's for sure.

Saturday night I ended up watching a few more episodes of the Schitt's Creek show that one of my friends has hooked me into loving. I know I'm several years late to the party, but this show has been cracking me up on a regular basis. I had a nice, quiet Saturday night in with pizza and Schitt's Creek. Nothing wrong with that!

Sunday morning I slept in a little and that was just what the doctor ordered. I went down 23 to tackle some errands, like attempting shopping at TJ Maxx in Riverdale and then hitting the Bank Of America ATM on my way back up 23. I then took a quick detour to Jimmy Geez. I had spicy garlic wings and they were tremendous, making me cry happy tears from the heat. I was happy to see my bartender bestie Sam, even though she was wearing a Buffalo Bills shirt to support her boyfriend. She cracked up when I entered rocking my usual New England Patriots hoody, and said "I'm so sorry normally I would be wearing Patriots stuff!" All good, even I was rooting for Buffalo Bills yesterday because they were playing the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

Sunday afternoon I went straight from Jimmy Geez to work wife Shawn's house for her birthday party. I contributed Prosecco to the party. It was great running into some friends I recently had seen, and some I hadn't in a year or so. Great times with terrific friends never gets old. I then got home in time to watch the 4pm NFL games, where I was switching back and forth between the Bills Chiefs game and the Seahawks 49ers game. I had more fantasy football players in the Seahawks 49ers game, so that kept my interest. Unfortunately my fantasy football teams still aren't doing great. Ah well. Onto next year!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Epic Weekend In Pictures. Time to start planning next weekend!
