Trenton, the capital city of New Jersey, has been named the best place to retire in the state, according to a recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report. The city also placed 143rd on the list of best retirement destinations nationwide, making it the only New Jersey location to make the top 150.

With a population of 106,290, Trenton offers a small-city feel and access to cultural and historical landmarks. The city’s median household income is $56,472, and the median age is 37 years old. However, its unemployment rate of 9.71% remains higher than the national average.

The city's location makes it convenient to New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and the Jersey Shore. The abundance of major highways and local roadways allows for a smooth flow of traffic. Trenton is also home to a number of parks and trails, including Mercer Meadows, a 1,600-acre park with separate districts that include meadows, gravel trails, and fishing spots. Cyclists, walkers, and runners can take advantage of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail, which runs through Lawrence and Hopewell townships, as well as the 70-plus-mile trail at the D&R Canal State Park.
