New Jersey Transit commuters are facing significant delays due to Amtrak overhead wire issues near Newark Penn Station. The problems have led to service suspensions and delays of up to an hour on several lines, including the North Jersey Coast Line and the Northeast Corridor. The Raritan Valley Line service into and out of Penn Station New York is also experiencing 60-minute delays.
In response to the disruptions, NJ Transit has diverted eastbound Midtown Direct service to Hoboken. To accommodate inconvenienced passengers, NJ Transit rail tickets are being cross-honored by PATH at Newark, Hoboken, and 33rd Street-NY stations. NJ Transit and private carrier buses are also honoring rail tickets.
According to NBC New York, Amtrak service between New York and Philadelphia has also been suspended due to the overhead wire damage. Amtrak announced on social media that service is expected to be restored around noon.
