Brian Gragnolati, the President and CEO of Atlantic Health System, has announced his intention to retire after a 45-year career in healthcare. The announcement was made by the health system's Board of Trustees on Tuesday. Gragnolati will continue in his current role until a successor is found, after which he will serve as a special advisor to the board.

Gragnolati, who has led Atlantic Health System since 2015, has been instrumental in the organization's growth and success. Under his leadership, Atlantic Health System has been recognized for its high-quality care and strategic expansion. The system's flagship hospital, Morristown Medical Center, has been named the No. 1 hospital in the state on numerous occasions by U.S. News & World Report.

Gragnolati has also overseen the system's expansion through strategic partnerships, including the acquisition of Freehold-based CentraState Healthcare in 2021 and the expected completion of a partnership with New Brunswick-based Saint Peter's Healthcare System in 2025.

According to Saint Peter's Healthcare System, Gragnolati's commitment to measuring organizational success by the number of lives touched by the system has led to Atlantic Health caring for more than one million people annually, up 50% from his arrival.

Gragnolati began his career in healthcare as an emergency medical technician. He has since become a nationally respected advocate for hospitals and health systems. In 2019, he served as Board Chair of the American Hospital Association.
