New Jersey is investing $1.5 million in artificial intelligence (AI) education by awarding grants to 12 schools. Announced on Wednesday (January 22), these funds are part of Governor Phil Murphy's 2025 budget. Nine school districts, including Keyport School District in Monmouth County and Somerville Public School District in Somerset County, received $75,000 each to develop AI-related educational programs. The Lawrence Public School District in Mercer County received $72,805.

The grants aim to integrate AI into classrooms by supporting programs that use AI for tutoring, teacher training, and curriculum development. Schools will focus on AI literacy, ethics, and societal impacts, establishing AI-driven learning opportunities like makerspaces.

In addition, Middlesex County Vocational School District received $375,000 to create AI and robotics curricula, while Mercer County Vocational District was awarded $338,872. These funds will help students understand AI's practical applications, including computing theory and natural language processing.

Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of preparing students for future technological advancements. The grants, which run until January 31, 2026, are expected to position New Jersey as a leader in AI education.
