A 2.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern New Jersey on Friday (January 24) afternoon, with its epicenter located just north of Paramus. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at a depth of approximately 4.7 miles. Over 330 people reported feeling light shaking, with reports coming from as far away as Boonton, New Jersey, and even parts of New York, including the Bronx and Yonkers.

Despite the widespread reports of shaking, there have been no reports of structural damage or injuries. The earthquake comes after a series of seismic events in the region, including a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2024 that was felt from New Jersey to Boston and Philadelphia. That event raised questions about the potential threat of future earthquakes in the area.

As reported by PIX11, the April earthquake displayed unusual behavior, shaking New York City harder than expected and traveling as far as Virginia and Maine. The recent quake, although smaller, has prompted residents to share their experiences on social media.

The USGS advises residents to be prepared for potential aftershocks and recommends the "drop, cover, and hold on" method if shaking occurs. While earthquakes in this region are relatively rare, they serve as a reminder of the area's seismic activity.
