Sussex County's groundhog, Stonewall Jackson, predicted an early spring on Sunday (February 2) at the Space Farms Zoo & Museum in Wantage Township, New Jersey. Emerging from his winter hideaway, Stonewall Jackson did not see his shadow, signaling warmer days ahead for the region. This prediction aligns with those of other local groundhogs, including Lady Edwina from Essex County, New Jersey, and Staten Island Chuck from New York, who also forecasted an early spring. However, Pennsylvania's famous Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter.
Groundhog Day remains a beloved tradition, with people eagerly awaiting the predictions of these furry forecasters. Stonewall Jackson's prediction was part of a long-standing family tradition continued by his handler, Parker Space, who is also a state senator and volunteer firefighter.
