A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is forecasted to hit the Tri-State area, potentially disrupting the morning commute on Thursday (February 6). The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for all 21 counties in New Jersey, warning of hazardous travel conditions due to icy roads. The storm is expected to begin in the early morning hours and continue through the morning commute, affecting areas across Northwest New Jersey, the Poconos, and Orange County, New York.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with less than an inch of snow expected in most areas. However, northwest New Jersey and parts of the western Hudson Valley could see up to three inches of snow. Ice accumulation is a concern, with up to two-tenths of an inch possible in some areas, creating slick and dangerous conditions on roads, highways, and bridges.

The EPAWA Weather warns that the icy conditions could make the Thursday morning commute particularly treacherous, advising drivers to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. Schools in areas that remain frozen throughout the event may face delays or closures.

The storm is expected to transition from snow to sleet and freezing rain overnight, with rain likely farther south. The precipitation is forecasted to end before noon on Thursday. Another similar weather event is anticipated over the weekend, starting Saturday afternoon and continuing through the overnight period.
