President Donald Trump appeared to have a mysterious large bruise on his hand while meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron this week.

Several photos taken at the Oval Office and shared on social media showed Trump, 78, with makeup on top of discoloration on his right hand, leading to speculation. The White House claimed the bruise was caused by the president having to shake hands every day during the first month of his second non-consecutive term in office.

"President Trump is a man of the people," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said via NBC News, adding, "His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day."

"President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day," Leavitt added in a follow-up statement.

Trump previously appeared to have visible bruising or redness in August and November 2024, NBC News reported. The then-president-elect also acknowledged bruises on the back of his right hand during his TIME magazine 'Person of the Year' feature interview published in December 2024.

"It's from shaking hands with thousands of people," he said at the time.

Trump, who became the oldest president sworn into office in January, had previously claimed he would release his full medical report during a December interview with NBC News' Meet The Press, however, has not yet done so.
