New Jersey is bracing for a major storm today (Wednesday, March 5), as a powerful weather system approaches from the southwest. The storm has already caused significant damage across the Southern Plains and Deep South, with reports of wind damage and tornadoes. As it moves into New Jersey, residents should prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, and potential thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring about an inch of rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph, especially in coastal areas where a Wind Advisory is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. The worst of the weather is expected during the evening rush hour, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., when a squall line of strong thunderstorms could sweep across the state.

The My Central Jersey warns that there is a slight risk of severe storms, including the possibility of isolated tornadoes, particularly in southern New Jersey. The storm is expected to clear by late evening, with lingering showers possible overnight.

As reported by NorthJersey.com, temperatures will remain too mild for snow, with highs reaching into the 50s. However, the storm's strong winds could lead to downed trees and power outages, so residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms.

After the storm passes, a blustery cooldown is expected on Thursday, with temperatures dropping into the 40s. The weather will calm down by the weekend, offering a seasonably cool and dry Saturday for outdoor activities.
