Thousands of New Jersey residents are without power following a second day of strong winds that have battered the state. The powerful gusts, reaching up to 50 mph, have caused widespread power outages by knocking down tree limbs and electrical wires. As of Thursday (March 6) evening, more than 4,700 homes and businesses were reported to be in the dark, according to regional utility companies.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for all 21 counties in New Jersey, which remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday (March 7). The advisory warns of potential hazards, including downed trees and power lines, as well as flying debris. The strong winds also pose a risk to drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles like trucks and buses.

According to NJ.com, the outages began on Wednesday afternoon and continued into Thursday evening. Utility companies are working to restore power to affected areas as quickly as possible.

The weather is expected to improve over the weekend.
