Additional studies of Newton Pool approved

This week the Newton Town Council approved paying an additional $20,000 to study core samples of the 60 year old concrete that makes up the Newton Pool. Before the core samples can be taken penetrating ground radar must be used to determine where steel rods were placed to reinforce the concrete while the pool was being built. Last year the cost to repair the pool was estimated to be about $250,000. Council members expect a report next month that should shed some light on what has to be done to reopen the pool next summer.
