Late this past Thursday Night New Jersey State Police and members of the Allamuchy Green First Aid squad responded to the scene of an accident on Route 80 near mile marker 17.4. The police vehicles were blocking the left and center lanes with their lights flashing. The ambulance and first aid squad was on the scene to assist if needed. While all of this was going on a large tow truck that was towing a refrigerator truck slammed into several of the state police vehicles and the ambulance. There were no officers in the cruisers at the time. A first responder in the ambulance suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tow truck was issued a summons for careless driving. The damage to the ambulance was minor. The fate of the state police vehicles was much worse. Pictures posted to the Allamuchy Green First Aid Squad Facebook page showed the cruisers looked like they were crushed by the tow truck. The post said "By a miracle every member from fire, EMS and police walked away last night and returned home to their families safely."
There is a reason for so called "move over" laws. This is what can happen when you don't move over.
