That potato sized rock that smashed through the roof of a home in Hopewell Township this week was in fact a very rare meteorite. College of New Jersey scientists got a chance to examine the rock visually and scan it under an electron microscope. They determined it was a rare stony chondrite meteorite. The physics department professors and students said the meteorite was in excellent condition and having one make it to Earth is a very rare scientific event.
The family that owns the home the meteorite crashed into at first thought someone threw a rock into their attic. Then soon realized a rock could not have crashed through their roof and done so much damage. It was actually still warm to the touch when they discovered it. I wonder what will happen to this meteorite now that we know what it is. I'll bet the family can get some nice money for it.
