In the early morning hours of July 4th the Sparta Elks called police to report their generator and a five gallon gas can had been stolen. The members of the club were at the Mohawk Avenue School setting up for the township's annual July 4th parade. Sparta Police then obtained security camera footage that showed 65 year old Dan Waitzman placing the generator in his truck and leaving the scene. The generator and gas can were still in the back of his truck when police arrived to arrest him. He has been charged with theft of moveable property and released to await a future court date. I would think someone who is 65 would have already learned crime doesn't pay. Especially when there are cameras all over the place!
