Brenda Aldi has planned and organized the July 4th reading of The Declaration of Independence on the Newton Green for over 10 years. This year the event will be taking place at the Newton V.F.W on Mill Street instead. The change in location was prompted by the Sussex County Board of Commissioners who now require a $2 Million Dollar liability insurance policy for all events on the Green. Plus an auto insurance policy to cover any damage to the Green done by vehicles. Even though no vehicles are needed at the event. The additional auto policy is mandatory. The cost is an additional 3 to 4 hundred dollars. Which Aldi says she won't pay. Luckily, the V.F.W post in Newton is coming to the rescue. The veterans group will host the event instead. The post has plenty of parking and it's only a few blocks from the Newton Green on Mill Street. If you would like to go on July 4th the reading will start at 10 in the morning.
